Dumpster Rental in Forest Acres, SC
Forest Acres borders Columbia on the east and is frequently mistaken for part of it. It is not. Forest Acres has been its own incorporated city since 1935, with its own mayor and council — and its own say over its streets.
Why the distinction matters
Residents voted to incorporate in 1935 specifically rather than join the City of Columbia, and the city has governed itself ever since. It sits in Richland County.
The practical consequence: Columbia's temporary encroachment permit process, run through Columbia's Planning & Development department, does not govern Forest Acres streets. If you need a container in the public right-of-way here, that is a City of Forest Acres question.
Driveway placement on your own property needs no permit either way, which covers most residential rentals.
SCDOT still applies where it applies. Major routes through Forest Acres may be state-maintained, and a state encroachment permit is required on those regardless of the city.
Forest Acres properties
The housing stock here is largely mid-century — a lot of homes built from the 1940s through the 1960s, on established lots with mature hardwoods. Two practical consequences:
Tree canopy. The truck needs roughly 20 feet of vertical clearance to raise the bed and roll the container off. Mature oaks over a driveway can make that impossible even when the driveway itself is long enough. Walk the approach before you book.
Older concrete. Mid-century driveways are often original. A loaded roll-off concentrates serious weight onto its wheels and rails. Ask for plywood under the contact points — it takes a minute and it is cheap insurance on concrete that is seventy years old.
Common projects here
Mid-century homes mean renovation work: kitchen and bath updates, flooring replacement, roof work on long-deferred roofs, and estate cleanouts as long-held properties change hands. A 15 or 20 yard covers most of it.
For a roof, give us the square footage and the number of layers — older homes here often carry two or three, and that is a weight question, not a volume one.
